A slightly different perspective...my 'de luxe' room in the Friendship Hotel in Kiev. December 2008. Spartan -with a shared toilet and shower but I was happy since the bed was clean, I had a good book and the heating worked. Every floor had a babushka controlling who came and went and so no problems with 'a nice girl' knocking on your door. Canon PowerShot G10.
