I have asked for guidance in this matter before! - but still no further on!. It's not often that I want or need to foist my humble efforts on to you folks, when I do it's usually to illustrate a point, and my file - when reduced to the stipulated dimensions, duly appears here as a thumbnail, which when enlarged still does not rival the 'wide-screen' extravaganzas that you guys follow with!. Following the advice - I put a dozen or so jpegs on to flickr, with the assurance that they just transfer to here easily, not so! after writing my post and typing in the numbers from my flickr page, and ticking the little box, add picture?, all I get here is a little white box with a red cross in it - that will not open!:bang:. Where am I going wrong?....is there an easier - dumb-old-fella-proof method?
Cheers, Dave.

Dave,
assuming that you've successfully uploaded your pictures onto flickr (if not, there is a program called flickr uploader), go to the photo and the size that you want to show here.
Right click on the photo, and copy the photo's URL/link to your clipboard
It will be a seemingly long/random URL, but will still have the format of
http://blah.blah.com/abc/xyx.jpg
All you have to do is stick the above url as part of your normal post here (paste) and insert
after the URL

here's my process if you have an image on flickr:
1. open the image on flickr, above the image go to "all sizes"
2. at the top, chose the size you want (large or medium)
3. scroll below the image then highlight and copy the info in the second box (smaller of the two boxes)
4. come here and open the thread you want to post the image into, type a few words like "here is my stunning BW image I want to show you".
5. type this below your comment
and viola'
try it here to see if it works
good luck

Copy the link of the image you want to post (typically ends with ".jpg"), then click the button circled in red below (pic of a mountain with a sun rising from behind it), then paste your image link into the pop-up box that appears after you click the button. Easy

Ride, dive, shoot.
just another tip. make sure you are copying URL of the IMAGE, not the PAGE. I believe almost all online photo album services generate jpeg (.jpg) so you can pretty much always be sure that you did right by seeing ".jpg" at the end of the URL you copied and pasted.
As jonmanjiro said, other image formats will work, but you don't want to use .gif or .bmp for photos as they can only show 256 colors.

I also notice, don't know if it's the same with you guys, that sometimes a jpeg from flicker will look something like this: XXX.jpg=x?. IF so, delete the characters after "jpg." If I don't do that, my photos don't appear...
