I was feeling a little miffed that I'm in no financial position at the moment to buy an X100 ... but now I don't care because I suddenly remembered I have this little gem and I've decided I'm going to break a rule and shoot some street with it over the next few weeks.

1933 Leica ll ................ $190.00 (eBay about four years ago)

3.5cm Summaron ......... Nothing (I found it hiding in a box with a very cheap lllf I bought off eBay and the seller never mentioned it was there!)

Russian 35mm Finder
.. $35.00 (Bought this from Kully I think, not long after I joined RFF)

I think this is a pretty darned good street rig for $225.00 ... you can keep your freakin' Fujis because I don't care any more ... and you can't shoot Tri-X in an X100!

😀

3.5 Summaron is a fine lens. As long as the body is light tight and film advances and the shutter works, you are good.

You are also not likely to get mugged for it either.

Aren't all these just another form of the good old "film vs digital" staff?

I wonder how people reacted back when the R-D1 came out...showing off their pretty darned good street rig for $225.00 and stating that you can't shoot Tri-X in the R-D1?

Maybe you could lighten up a little and realise that this is all about having a little tongue in cheek fun.

I'd have an X100 in a heartbeat if I had a spare $1300.00!

Oh no, certainly not ... and anyway, have a separate forum for that sort of thing

Ooo... I remember that finder. From England to Oz and I think I got it from some bloke in the Ukraine.

I keep thinking a black Barnack would be very nice... but it will never be.

Very nice Adrian ... I took the liberty of posting the image of your camera.

I like the pics too ... I have a couple of Kodak pocket folders, maybe I should give one a try out. 🙂

Considering silly-ass prices everything is going for right now, you may have X100 right there, once sold this rig...
I keep reading posts on a net from couple years back, advices like: "get yourself a summicron for $300" and such. Yeah...

Just wait until the X100 firmware is hacked and tri-x emulation mode is introduced 😉

Stupid question: if I put one of those ltm summaron 3.5mm onto my M6 (via adapter), would it be rangefinder coupled or would I have to rely on scale focus?

Keith, that's more to what the X200 will be: smaller size, 25 megapixel full frame and interchangeable lenses.

doolittle: all ltm would be coupled. You can run all leica lenses on a M6 from 1932-present.

doolittle - it will work just fine, I put one on my MP on the odd day that it doesn't have the 35mm Summicron on there. Also fits my black II, but the pics will have to follow (I'm at work too)

thanks bigeye and John, that's good to know!

Fuji should have launched the X100 as soon as they announced it, to lure the fickle consumer. After the saturation coverage I am no longer interested in it!
