Hello,

When I am on vacation I am bringing my Voigtlaender Bessa R4A with me.
In my camera bag it shares the space with two additional lenses. To save the lenses from scratches I want to protect them inside a lens pouch. As rangefinder lenses are smaller than SLR lenses I would like to get pouches which offer a tighter fit on the slim rangefinder lenses.
Do you know where I might find these kind of pouches?

Best regards,
Thomas

I don't know if they're still being made but I used OpTech pouches when I had my Leicas. The pouches came in several sizes and were made of the soft, spongey material OpTech uses for their camera straps so they offered excellent protection. Check B&H's website for them. If they're no longer in production, there's probably something else that will suffice.

I like the little domke wraps. But even they can seem a bit bulky with the tiny rf lenses. Might be an option though.

You can also search for "velvet gift pouches" and find a wide variety of options in different sizes.

The outdoor outfitter Eastern Mountain Sports had a series of small padded pouches used for candle lanterns and other packables. They may be a bit too long, but most came with a drawstring closure and were about the right diameter. That said, I don't know if the company is still in business; I bought quite a selection some years ago and they've held up well.

Try a Leica double lens mount (cap?) and then into a small neoprene pouch. If really small lenses, they can fit side by side in a hard case for glasses or one of the small Pure radio hard cases for their portable radios. I use the latter for hard disk drives, Gopro cam and headphones.

Tokina in the 1970s and 1980s supplied small pouches that could be used with other brand's prime lenses. They usually are small enough to safely store RF lenses. They are black leather with a dark green lining and often have held up very good over time.

You might be able to pick some up here and there. In the past, I've found some with this shop in Berlin http://www.fotoshophh.com who are also on eBay.

EDIT:

off topic:

This stores the Beautyflex 2.8 TLR

I started to use bags from a website called Pouchmart. http://www.pouchmart.com/

They are not padded but they are soft but thick enough to protect lenses from getting scratched in a bag. There is a big variety of materials to choose from and at a very reasonable price too. Most of the ones from camera or lens accessory people are just too bulky and thick. - jim

I bought some neoprene zippered pouches at Best Buy. They do a great job. I do not recall the price.

I agree that neoprene pouches are great. One day a few years ago I went to my local optometrist shop for new glasses and noticed they were selling small protective neoprene pouches for glasses and realised there were an ideal diameter and length for a Leica M lens. The only lens I struggle with is the Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 which has quite a girth. The pouches are water proof and while they would not protect against a solid bump, the neoprene being quite thin, they do protect against the normal treatment the lenses get inside a camera bag. They were also cheap at less than $5 each. If you can find something of this sort, use it.

Another thing to consider -- I used pouches very briefly but I live in an extremely damp environment and quickly found that pouches trap moisture and the lens spends lots of time in a little bubble of damp air. I dispensed with them. Dividers in a bag protect from scratches and allow better air circulation to speed drying. And between the damp and the scratches I'd take the scratches.

If you live in a dry area your experience will be entirely different.
