Anybody know anything about custom powdercoating?
Wouldn't a purple or battleship grey Canon be trippy? Mauve? Two tone plus black?
Old Thunderbird turquoise or coral? AND coral?
Is this feasible?

OH MAN! I can imagine some gear that would put those FSU re-paint shops to shame!

BUT... how much is the camera body going to defrom from the heating and cooling this requires?
And who wants to be the first to try it on their camera?

As a long-time fisherman and tinkerer, I can tell you these powder colors are very easily applied and the temperatures involved should not deform the metal body stampings in the least.
This stuff is all over eBay too.

The paint is very tough when cured, especially when oven cured.

I'm doing the unthinkable, and having the top and bottom plates of my Leica M2 done in electric blue, with a base of resin enamel and an electrostatic coating on top. Once it comes back, I'll post some photos of the carnage.

Looking forward to seeing that!
I do have a couple of "dead" cameras and this is very tempting...
I'm pretty sure that's how Mary Shelly's novel starts ...

OK, so who does this work? I'll send em' an L1 immediately. It works fine but I don't love it as much as I love my P.

I took a look at the top and bottom plates of my M2 and decided that it required tools I didn't possess in order to properly take them off. Youxin Ye is performing a CLA on the camera, and I asked him to send me back the top and bottom plates. I stripped them down and sent them off an outfit that refinishes handguns (yes, I'm a shooter, despite being in Berkeley and an otherwise staunch progressive).
The cost is $30, but you need to send just the top and bottom plates, everything else removed. I don't know how well it will turn out, but I'll be happy to post my results.

At the beginning again.
wouldn't powder coating keep all of that 'beautiful' brassing at bay, since it i usually harder and more scratch resistant?
Sounds like a sweet idea to me, though I think Hammartone is still my fave. If my cameras glowed in the dark I'd never get any sleep, as they're on the pillow next to me most nights

keep in mind you will lose all your engraving. powder coating is thick. And will round the corners of any engraving making it near impossible to recolor the engraved lettering.
It may also change dimensions under things like shutter speed dials and winders causing problems. Lots to think about.

Certainly the powder coating I had done on my stair hand-rails is thick, and textured for a better grip too... but is it necessarily thick for small items like camear top/bottom? Can it be applied thinner, maybe in a finer grade of powder? I should call the powder coating place and ask, this is sorta interesting!

Another thought about this: how fine a powder is this stuff? Would it be possible to do an overall color and then re-cut the engravings and fill those with a different color? I'm having camera porn thoughts of a black camera with glow-in-the-dark markings; shutter speed, frame line settings, directional arrows, etc?
