I sent my M8.2 to Leica, N.J. for the $350 CLA deal. Not only did they do the basic CLA, but also a couple of parts got replaced, PLUS they changed the entire skin to the newer M9P type. I was pleasantly surprised and my faith restored in Leica service being more than fair.

No, that was the surprise. The old skin was in fine shape. The body is getting brassy and the shutter count is relatively high, so maybe they gave a user a break?

very nice of them. how many actuations/shutter count do you have?

Good. The overheated clamour here about how Leica would no longer service M8s and abandon their loyal users was hard to bear at some point.

Only a lot compared to some: 30,000+ actuations.

Anytime they need to access your camera, they have to remove the skin.

And maybe they ran out of the original skin. Personally I would want my camera back as original, unless I requested otherwise. I've been jaded by the LCD issue, although I've routinely gotten good service from Leica NJ.

I've had many Leica M bodies come back from overhauls at Solms or N.J. with the same skin. I wonder if the digital bodies are different so that skins are changed with every overhaul? That's a lot of skin and effort.

My M8 just returned from Leica NJ and I too had the M9P skin installed for free. Very quick turnaround on service, about 12 days total. I'll also add that I'm now listing that very same M8 in the classifieds this weekend. Has less than 3000 actuations and was purchased as a "Official Leica refurb" in 2/12.
