I picked up an 85mm Canon Serenar f1.9 at a yard sale for $20.00 last Saturday because the "lens was scratched" and unuseable according to the elderly gentleman who sold it to me. He claimed that he had loaned it to a friend and was unable to clean it because there was some hardened oil or varnish spotted on the lens element.
I'm not sure what he used to clean it, but just one application of the lens pen cleaned it up immaculately. I don't know what that mysterious cleaning compound is, but it sure works! Great stuff! Does anyone out there know what the compound is? It's incredible!
