Gday`

I come across ya forums when looking for manuals for some of my cameras.
The Praktica MTL3 I pick up two weeks ago for $10 it looks ok and seems to work allright tho the light meter stays under the O mark like it stuck and the timer das not stay on. I have just replace the battery with an 625A. Can anyone tell me if the timer on the Praktica MTL3 works off the battry power? And is there anywhere I can download en servics manual for Praktica MTL3?

All the best

King, the MTL3 self timer is mechanical and not dependent upon battery power. While the alkaline 625A battery has a slightly higher voltage than the old PX-625 mercury battery, I believe that the MTL3 has a bridge circuit that should compensate and give you a good meter reading. I can't, however, swear to that and you'll need to give it a try or compare it against a known-good hand held meter.

If you Google for "Pentacon" or "Praktica", you should be able to find a site that has the manual. I'm at work and can't access my home computer's bookmarks. I have the site bookmarked.

I use a battery adapter from John Neal here on the RFF, works a treat. The PX625 was a 1.35 is voltage but the new ones are higher. I can't say if the meter will be accurate with the current battery. The MTL5 if I am not mistaken used the SR44 or LR44 battery chamber although I don't know if the electronics were 'tweaked'.

OK the self timer is a good old mechanical job, you cock it by moving the lever in a clockwise direction (the timer is upside down on these cameras if I recall). To activate it just press the middle of the pivot pin of the timer lever and all should whirrr away.

One point of fact on these old wonders is that the light seals are probably pooh after all this time. Jon Goodman (also an RFF member ) can help here.

Good luck and have fun.

the praktica mtl 3 has a bridge circuit but the meter isnt "slide material" to begin with- meaning some arent, quality control was spotty.usualy an alkalaine battery will give you decent results with print film.

anyway i have a parts body(dead shutter) with a working meter and if you want it just pm me.

Thx for the info guy`s

The self timer when moved clockwise direction comes strat back with out activating. das not hold there at all start on an off action no whirrr at all unless I am holding down the activate butten the same time move the self timer clockwise and still its strat back.

Been looking on Google I find the owners manual but still cont track down a service manual.
