Hi Erik
Haven't had any work done on the Elmar, it's not too bad overall... Although I think there are a couple of small scratches on the front! It looks well used but is a lovely compact lens!
When using a shade a few small scratches are usually no problem.
How do you scan your negatives, David? They look awesome.
Erik.

Chrome or nickle? Not fogged? Fascinating lens.
Chrome, 1933. Seller said it has some dust and haze, but if it comes apart like an Elmar than it shouldn't be a problem to clean it up.
Johan, I've got a 532/16 as well. I'm not really a fan of that 80mm f/2.8 Tessar though. Been meaning to put together a North African Campaign AFPU photographer impression for a while now.
I'll drop you a line regarding the portraits/cards

Hi Erik
Nothing fancy with my scanning process...I've got an old flatbed scanner (Epsom Perfection V500) and then I do basic adjustment in Gimp as my laptop used to keep crashing with photoshop....I guess I treat the whole process in a similar way to when I used to wet print...everything is easier if you start off with negs that are easy to work with in the first place! Right now 90% of what I shoot is with a single camera, a single lens and on FP4 - the light is so good in Melbourne that I'm finding I can quite easily use this combination throughout the whole year if I want to (unlike when I lived in London)!! For me, I think that reducing the 'variables' has really helped!

To clean an Elmar when it is apart is no problem for me, but taking it apart is ...

Having experience in wet printing surely helps to make a good scan.

Beautiful light in that last one Erik!
3 pics this week from my 'natural world' project - mainly something I work on when we get a holiday!...these were all taken in Byron Bay a few weeks back...
The first two are with the Leica III and 50mm Elmar, the last is with the IIIa, Summar and Nooky Hesum.....

Thanks Erik! Byron Bay is a beautiful place.. And the light was amazing!! I was quite surprised at how well the 50mm Elmar did when it was shot wide open on that second pic with the grass... I love that lens!!!!

Thanks Helen
The 5cm f/2.5 Hektor I've acquired seems to have a scuffed front element, mainly in the center of the glass. After cleaning the haze and dust out of the interior I did a little test with the lens on my R-D1. The center of the image starts to get more fuzzy and glow more with smaller apertures beyond f/6.3. I'll see if I can work around this or maybe decide to get the lens polished.
Will post some images taken with it later when I find the time.

Looks very good, Rick.
I have this lens too - probably a conversion from a Leica I model A because it is in nickel, unnumbered and reads 50mm instead of 5cm - and I use it on a Leica II. This shot is at full aperture.
Leica II, Hektor 50mm f/2.5, Tmax400.

Great composition Erik. What was the speed for this portrait?

Thank you, Dave and Mojo.
1/100 sec @ f/2.5
I used the viewfinder of the camera. The viewfinder of the II is much better than that of the I. The viewfinder of the I is only useful at infinity.

Back on to shadows this week - the top two are from Byron Bay, the bottom one was at the end of my street... Usual set up on the bottom two with the 50mm elmar. The top one is the IIIa but with a summitar (for comparison only as it shouldn't really be in this thread!!)
