I have a Olympus Pen EP-1 that I love. yesterday I was at a small local camera shop that used to have a repair section. They were selling all of the stuff people never picked up and I found an original Pen F with the 38mm 2.8 lens.

The shutter is stuck but the lens is perfect. I am going to put the lens on my EP-1 and see how it shoots. I saw where there were two 38mm lenses, one regular and one "pancake". Mine doesn't look like a pancake.

I got both the camera and lens for 5 dollars so I'm not out much. I may even try to get the body working. Anyone have any idea what to expect from the lens?

An extraordinary deal. I believe that lens is indeed the pancake? In any event it's well regarded. Pen lenses on m4/3 are the closest thing there is to native manual focus glass...I have the 40 and the 60 (as well as an FT) and use them all the time. Enjoy!

I stand corrected...turns out there is a rare non-pancake 38/2.8, sounds like that's what you've got!

Don't forget, you need an adapter to mount it on the E-P1.

The long-barrel 38/2.8 closely resembles the standard 38/1.8. Not a clue as to performance, but certainly rare, maybe even more so than the pancake 38. How close does yours focus?

Thanks everyone! What are your thoughts on getting the body fixed? I did order an adapter yesterday and will shoot it on my EP-1 soon. In looking at the lens barrel it seems to focus to a little less than .35 meters. It rotates well past 1.5 feet.

Anyone have both the pancake and non-pancake 38/2.8s ?

How do they compare?

Also, how does the 38/1.8 compare with the 40/1.4?

Got the adapter and took a few shots, it's a perfect little lens that seems to act like a macro. I cannot find anything about the lens, it must be sort of rare. Here is the first shot through it since the 60s I guess

ampguy, it's a 38 2.8. I found very little info about it. I found it in a basement on a non-working low serial number Pen F. I'm going to see if I can get the body fixed.
