Canada, eh.
I'm going to be selling some Leica gear for a friend and want to be sure to ask fair prices. I've done the checking of ebay completed auctions and got lots of prices for the 35, but very few for the 50.

If you care to, please suggest a fair price for either or both lenses, in EX+ condition.

1. Summicron 35mm, version 1, 8 elements, M3 type with goggles, leitz filter

2. Elmar M 50mm f2.8, E39, latest type, silver, leitz filter and hood

Thanks in advance!

V1 Summicron 35 is a totally magic lens... Real double gauss, usable very high sharpness up to f/11-f/16, zero distortion focused at 3 meters... A dream lens that's indeed very expensive when in great shape. GLWS.
Cheers,
Juan

Thank you Raid, Juan, and yosarian123! Much appreciated.

I'll be listing these lenses and more here on RFF. These are the big ticket items.

I have seen the 35 Summicron v2 M3 version seen for around US$1500 in reasonable good condition, US$1300 ~ 1400 with slight haze etc. I think the price really depends on the condition in case of this lens.

The 50/2.8 Elmar-M went up quite a bit, now more in the US$800 from what I have seen.

Depends I would say. Here in Japan a v2 and v1 fetch crazy prices, both "Made in Germany". v1 is preferred by BW enthusiasts, better separation of tones and nice overall rendering. However, only if the lens is in top-condition, slight haze and contrast is reduced. Also not really the best choice for color except if you like muted colors.

You could buy it at a USA price and flip it for a Japan price. 🙂

I checked its price one or two weeks ago:
A bargain one, goggled, around $1,300.
A goggled one, good shape, around $2,000.
Non goggled, good shape, around $3,000.
Black ones, around $20,000.
One of the best lenses ever.
Cheers,
Juan

Camera West in CA has two 35 v1 goggled summicrons...
One for $995.00 and the other with slight haze $1295.90

As for the Modern Elmar.... Prices range from $750.00 to $1000.00
Saw one here on RFf recently and not sure if it Sold, priced dropped to 775 00 me thinks ... I was tempted

Both Stelar Lenses !

I traded off my V1 Summicron (M2 model w/o goggles) and I kept the goggled one. It is the same high quality optics.

What did you trade for, Raid? I've done some trading with my own gear lately. It's fun to get new stuff you want to use by trading old stuff you no longer use. I recently acquired a Plaubel Makina wide, Bronica S2a, and Olympus XA4 by trading.

The topic lenses of this thread need to be sold though.

Leica M9 🙂 [I also paid some cash] The Summicron made it all happen. Someone got an assignment overseas, and he needed a reliable film camera in place of his M9, he told me.

Cool. I'm still living in the past and have no clue about the new digital M models. Ignorance is bliss for me on that topic. 😎

It is good to find some people still living in the "film world" after all. This means that I could do this too, if I wanted to.
