$1,600 is quite optimistic, Kevin, but it probably happens on eBay. Othewise, I've hardly found them below $2,000. I was in the market for one for about two months until early November, when I decided to snag one, silver, with hood and caps, for $2199 (at KEH).
I paid for a chrome one £1,200 (approx. $2,300) six months ago, in the UK (from Robert White). However, UK and EU prices are a bit inflated compared with the US.
PS. I notice there has also been an increase in the price of new ones (here in the UK, from £1,600 to almost £1,900. Something tells me that this increase will impact the prices of second-hand ones.
I paid $1800 to a RFF member for a complete, mint- 35/1.4 ASPH kit including black lens, box, leather bag, square hood, 3 caps, cleaning cloth, papers.
I bot one on the Bay for $950. Glass was mint but the scale numbers were worn so it had lots of mileage. Looks like I did OK. It is a fantastic lens that's for sure!
i bought mine for $1650 complete, excl+ cond, 6 mos ago. Complete meaning box, hood, caps, leather case. The aperture wasn't as crisp as I like so I'm having Sherry fix that.
I'm pondering selling it and just using my 35mm Cron V4 and 50mm Summilux pre-asph.
I find I prefer the smaller footprint of the V4 and will mitigate the one stop slower by using faster film.
