Hi

I just noticed that as of the 1st of August Leica Switzerland will increase the price of almost any item in the price list ('M' & 'R'). On the M lenses the average increase is about $160. Has anyone further information on the reason?

Best regards

Leica Switzerland being the most expensive Leica seller worldwide has no problems to increase the prices every year. If you understand swiss german, their principle is "G.S.G." ("Geit's, so geit's"). On the 1st of august the swiss anyway don't notice it because they celebrate their national holyday.

I haven't bought one Leica lenscap here - every Leica item I have came from list- and forum members or ebay.

There are reports that Leica USA will increase price on July1. But I havn't seen any price increase from B&H and Adorama websites.

They probably have enough stock left from before the price increase. If they have to order something they don't have in stock it will likely be at a higher price.

i don't think B&H has much stock at all. and they tend to be behind on posting price increases relative to what PoPFlash might post. BH was showing a new 21mmASPH at about $3.5K in stock..an old backorder price, while POP flash shows what the new price can be..$4K. The Noctilux as example, PopFlash posted a new $5.5K price several months before BH had the new Price.

I could be wrong, but I believe the main reason for the price increases is the declining value of the US dollar against every major currency...
THIS IS THE NO. 1 ITEM EMAILED TODAY:

Re currencies, your statement is true except for the Japanese Yen, which weakend quite substantially even against the USD.
The currency situation should make CV and Zeiss products even more competitive. Interestingly enough, though not surprising, importers are much faster in increasing than decreasing prices because of currency movements.
