In addition to 28 elmarit and 50 cron, I want to get a nokton 35 1.2 for low light situation, for those times when I can't use a flash. I almost buy one, but I get an offer for a trade in of my 28 elmarit with a used 35 summilux in great condition. The summilux is offered for approximately $2100, its serial number is 3475076.

Is it a fair price for this summilux? If it is, which one would you do: get the nokton and keep the 28 elmarit, or would you get the summilux and sell (trade) the elmarit?

I love the elmarit, mostly when I shoot it wide open, where I can have the subject sharp and the background blurred.

Thanks in advance,
bob

Are you speaking of 35 Summilux ASPH? In excellent condition with hood it is worth $2100.

EDIT: If it is the 35 Summilux PRE-ASPH, then its worth no more than $1500.

Hi Bob, I assume by the serial number that the Summilux is pre ASPH? If that is the case, then $2100 (USD I assume) is pretty steep if it is a pre ASPH, there are plenty of mint examples around for much less than that.

All of that aside, I have both the 35mm Nokton and an old Summilux. 9/10 times I use the Summilux due to its size and look.

I'd have both 35's over the 28mm only because it's not a length that I use.

Good luck with your choice.

Andrew.

according to http://antiquecameras.net/leicamlenses.html

35 Summilux F1.4 Type 2 ( S7 )$ 1,350-1,5502,221,xxx to 3,253,xxx noted

Therefore, sounds like the lens in question is actually an early ASPH model. In that case, sounds like a reasonable deal. My ASPH lens has the serial 3.6(something) million...

I read somewhere that early versions are not as prone to focus shift as the later one (maybe this is another urban myth... but seems to agree with my copy).

The SN indicates that the lens was made in 1988, so it should be the pre-ASPH version because the 1st version 35/1.4 Aspherical (not ASPH) was introduced in 1989 and only few made.

$2100 would be a stellar price including for a mint titanium-finish pre-ASPH version.

The summilux is offered for approximately $2100, its serial number is 3475076.

Thank you guys. I guess the price is too high then. Thanks again.

Another question, there's a used 35 summicron ASPH, according to the ad it's a 2 years old lens in excellent condition. Asking price is US$1900.
Is $1900 too expensive for this cron? A new one is about $2500.

I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to ask about lens price, but I don't know where else to go to ask this kind of question. Down here there are only two stores that sell leica lenses, and there are not many leica users here and leica used gears for sale are quite rare here, so it's difficult to tell if certain price asked for a certain lens is too high or not.

Thanks in advance guys,
bob

I just scored a Mint 35 1.4 Summilux for my new to me M3. So Iv run about 6 rolls of film through the camera and Im very happy with the 35 1.4 as well as a 15 Voit. I paid 1800 Canadian for the 35 1.4 Pre asph which was a little steep, but Im not complaining of the results. Check out vintagevisuals.com Tim has some nice lecia gear and is a great guy to deal with. the only thing I dont like about the camera/lens is I never had it 25 years ago. :p
