Has anyone bought an RD-1 in the UK recently?

I've watched every (I think) ebay auction for RD-1 over the last few months to see what the going rate is but none have them have ever sold.

Admittedly they were seemingly over-priced Buy-it-nows from US and Japan, but I watched a very nice UK one go by without a single bid at £900 last night.

Are we Brits just not interested, or too poor, or have these sellers unrealistic expectations?

As much as I love my R-D1s £900 seems a lot to ask. It is almost as much as a footballer earns in a minute ;-)

Yes, totally unrealistic expectations. I bought my R-D1 for £850 from a ffordes with guarantee around 3 years ago.

I am occasionally attracted by the idea of another one. But compare to, say, £650 for an X100, and that price is silly. They are lovely items but, as a seller, expecting residual values like that of a V4 Summicron is delusional.

I paid £900 for mine a while back. I think it's a pretty normal price to pay for one. Ffordes Photographic also had one for sale at £900 a while back.

Worth every penny.

Today, for a R-D1/R-D1s, the street price should be around £900. More if there are accessories.
Quality and exclusivity don't come cheap. The R-D1 is better value for money than an M8 and obviously any X-nnn Fuji.

Hello

£900 !
That's nice to hear, I bought my Rd1s
brand new in Tokyo for about £980
when the exchange rate was faverable
a few years ago.

Not much paint left on it now tho !

Planning on selling one soon? :)

There's one in the classifieds for $1000 (about £640) right now. If you add shipping it should still be a lot less than £900...

Would probably end up paying 20% import tax though.

As someone in the UK, I tend to look in the UK or EU , where we don't need to pay import duty, and often Germany/France is more price competitive than the UK.

I've also had good luck buying from Taiwan, Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, for some reason they tend not to get stung for tax as often as U.S. imports do, I can't explain why.

OK, I'm in Switzerland where import tax is only 7.6%, so it's not that much of an issue over here.

Actually, I just got one from the US myself and it was delivered today ($50 shipping plus ~$80 tax is not too bad, I guess..)

Now I have my answer... I was bidding on a UNUSED R-D1 last night, which finally went for £670.

Did anyone here get it?

So the price of a mint R-D1 is about what a brand new x100 would cost. Hmmm.

As someone who owns both, go for the R-D1.

I bought my X100 the wrong side of the big price drop and as such now stand to loose a fair bit if I sell it on, otherwise it'd have probably gone once I got the R-D1.
