prices on the new summarits?

They still seem expensive when compared to the Zeiss lenses.

indeed....the question should be why buy this L 35 when a fine Z 35 is less and is as good or better? you'd have to dig the signature to get that L 35 over the zm 35/2, especially considering the ZM is 500 bucks less. With the exception of the 35, these new summarit-Ms don't directly go at Zeiss' current line up. the 75/90 aren't competing with the sonnar 85/2 in price point; these Ls are sort of standing alone. at 1500 bucks, i guess this 'the affordable' L 90? I am not eager to grab one until I see some results....but I am interested...especially in how 75 and 90 perform.

Unless results are available, I´d rather prefer a used cron or a ZM over the announced Summarits 35 and 50. E.g. mint 35mm aspherical crons sell in the announced Summarit price range. Reading different posts it seems as if most of the M camera users are interested to learn more about the 75 and 90 Summarit performance. In the 35 and 50 focal length there are plenty of good options available.
I hope Leica is launching "budget" (for Leica standards) 21 and 24 lens alternatives soon and a 18mm wouldn´t be bad either.

exactly. this set of summarits is missing some wides. a big miss for L. but perhaps they have some 'budget' wides in the plans? for L's sake, i hope they do. it would be good for all of us, as it would keep the price of ZMs down, too.

the irony in this is that i term these Ls 'budget' lenses, but they are still really costly....

Where have you seen mint aspherical summicrons in the price range of these new summarits? Please tell me!😱
All the used ones on Popflash are over $2000.

Right here. There was one selling for US$ 1400 two weeks ago. 🙂

Used mint cron 35 asph from private sellers are in the USD 1500-1650 range. I bought a demo one from a Leica dealer for USD 1600, incl Leica warranty.
Some of Popflash´s used lenses are new non US versions with Popflash warranty. Used, but mint 50 crons sell significantly below the price of a new Summitar 50. Not to forget the ZM 50 planar, which gets lots of praise by reviewers and owners alike and sells at about half the prica of the Summitar.
Tough competition.

😀

There already is a new wide in the lower price regions as Leica goes:
Elmarit 28/2,8 Asph.

I'm a bit confused when you folks in US compare prices of Zeiss ZM and Leica M and you say the ZM lenses are 'many times' cheaper.

Comparing the Leica Elmarit 28/2,8 Asph and Zeiss 28/2,8 Biogon the Leica is 40% more expensive.
Is the difference larger in the US?
Perhaps Zeiss sell their stuff considerably cheaper in the US than in Europe. Just as Nikon do.

i'm really looking forward to reviews on these lenses. these summarits are so small! the 75/2.5 is the size of a 50mm lux. just awesome for discreet street work i think. and the 35/50mms are about the same size as the 28/2.8 asph. very nice i think 🙂
