Hello Nikonians,

I'm about to help a friend sell a lot of gear, including (in 35mm) 3-4 of the bodies in the title and a dozen+ lenses, mostly AIS.

Problem is, I'm a longterm OM user in SLR. And although we know there are rough pricing rubrics at KEH and on Fantasy Island aka eBay, I would appreciate your advice on fair prices for these bodies:

F-AS chrome
FE2 black
FM2 chrome
F3 black

They're users (and I'm still determining whether there are any functional flaws).

Thanks for your best advice.

Robert, ebay does have some fantasy sellers for sure, but if you look at straight auctions starting at 99c from established sellers, and average the results, you'll be fine. It's still the best open market for determining a camera's "worth".

When I'm curious about a price I look to the sold results on ebay. Put in a search, then look over on the left column, at the bottom of the "show only" list, click "sold listings". Those are the real prices--what things that actually sold sold for, not what some hallucinating seller believes his stuff is worth in his wildest dreams.

Thanks for the tips/reminders. I'll have my researcher brother go over the Solds and do the averaging. That way I can stick with testing the cameras and lenses, the hands-on-gear stuff.

Anyone else with recent experience selling or buying these cameras is still welcome to advise on fair prices for user gear, thx.

Hello,

I got an F3HP in excellent shape for $200, which seems to be the going price for a really nice one. Make sure to ask if the LCD is nice and contrasty.. I highly recommend the F3. It is a very robust camera.

Gil.

Abram:

Here's the list as best I recall. Some include both caps/filters, others one or none. I'll ***asterisk lenses with fungus (which are totally segregated from the others). These are AI Nikkors unless noted. Some are -N, -P, -HC--don't recall which.

17 3.5 Spiratone
20 3.5 ***
24 2.8
28 2.8
35 2.8
50 1.4 haze+ schneideritis?
85 1.8
105 2.5***
135 2.8***!!
28-85 4.0 Tokina
80-200 Tokina

Tokina ext tubes 11, 18, 36
Hoya 55mm close ups +1,2,3

...I may add 1-3 others I am currently thinking of buying meself along with the FE2.

It's a buyers market. RFF especially has been s-l-o-w from a seller's perspective these last weeks. (My observation and some RFFers who had/have an ad running and which I talked to.)

Greetings, Ljós

I'm an extremely patient buyer in the used photo gear market, generally waiting around for months, until I see something that a) I want and have wanted a while, b) I know the going rate, and it's being sold for 25% or more below that, and c) it's in good user condition.

That being said, my numbers are probably a bit low, but I've purchased both a chrome FM2 and a black FE2 in the past few years, and I spent $65 on the FM2 (met the seller near his place) and $85 on the FE2 (bought on a forum and shipped). You can probably pull $100 for each, though, if not more.

Interested to see what the asking price will be for the non-fungal wides in that collection!

Thanks, friends.

Yes, a slow season for gear that sellers cherish dearly, as I too have noticed on RFF. Luckily my brother and I have no sentimental attachments to these things (Nikon, Nikkor, Kowa, Linhof), which are otherwise like having received a giant Christmas box that has been going round the world in a forgetful Santa-sleigh since 1978, though the Technika has been circling the globe since the 1950s and its Goerz Dagor since who knows when? Maybe Lindbergh saw it flying past.

We plan to list the Nikon bodies, accessories and Nikkor lenses here, at the very least, this week--and probably the Kowa Six and the Super 66s and their lenses (though the 55, 150s and 250 have sad little spider threads in their eyes; only the 85s seem unaffected). I've finished photographing everything, but still need to assess or rather guesstimate values for the Nikkors especially.

I'll post an advance notice here before the ad goes up.

best,

Robert
