Prime vs Zoom for digital

A lot depends on what you are doing. Zooms are great if you are working fast, or if you have limited freedom to move about.

I have a couple of L zooms and a Tokina ATX zoom. All are very good, though the Tokina ain't quite up there with the L zooms. One thing is clear to me, and that's that the L zooms are far better than the budget Canon primes.

I also have the 24L, which is a great lens and my fall back lens for low light. If you are short of light you can't beat fast primes. f2.8 zooms ain't that fast when the light has gone.

X-Ray, do you ever have problems getting the EF85f1.2 to focus? I have the EF100f2, I sometimes wonder if it has a focus fault. I've just learned to fire - focus - fire and so on, for anybody I'm shooting with this lens wide open. Is this just the nature of such shots (as I figure if I or the subject move an inch we ain't gonna be in focus) or is the EF100f2 not most acurate focusing lens? This lens is my first such 'portrait' lens.
