Looking for a way to make fix last longer .

Question ? If you mix fix 1 to 4 . Will it last longer ?

Thanks in advance

Mike Riches

Dear Mike,

No.

The limiting factor in fixer life for paper is silver build-up. Using 1+4 will fix faster but the fixer life will be identical.

At least, that's the classic answer for fibre-base paper but RC is another matter. Even then, Ilford recommends the same capacities for both concentrations, though RC capcaity is twice FB. For further information go to http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...m4fVuiLPdxu9X3Cs1BJEQMg&bvm=bv.45645796,d.d2k and download the PDF.

This also gives information on replenishing, which may be of interest.

Cheers,

R.

And there is two bath fixing. If your throughput is small it could be viewed as overkill, but it improves yield dramatically for a given residual silver level. Lots of info if you do a search.

For example, in the old rec.photo.darkroom site which used to be good but got messed up with spam, at

https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/rec.photo.darkroom

do a search for "gudzinowicz fixing" for an erudite article on how it works.
