Print Size Poll

Ok, let's make it a 3 poll day.

I often order double prints in 4x6 size as requests for copies from grandparents and the like are made for Sammy shots. Recently, for things I shot for myself, really the same thing I guess, I have been ordering single copies of 5x7, for just a little more $ than the doubled 4x6. I like the look of the larger print.

Just interested, what size prints do you order when you process print film?

i've just been having the film developed and scanned, no prints.

Same here, whether i develop them at home or in the lab, I scan all of mine now and rarely make prints, never when I order them anymore. Unless its a special occasion like a vacation or something.

I get 4x6 prints when I need them. When I don't, I simply get the film processed and scanned by the lab.

As I'm typing this, I'm waiting for a roll of BW400CN to be processed, scanned and printed at the good lab around the corner. I'll post whatever is worth it. 😉

When I get color film developed I normally have it scanned to CD.

Black & White that I develop myself I print a contact sheet size 8x10. From this if there are any that i like I may print 8x10, 11x14 or 16x20.

Wow, it seems a lot of us just have the roll developed and scanned to CD, no prints. Same for me, so I guess I have to answer "none of the above".

I just have my film developed (color-C41) or soup the B&W myself and then I scan the negatives. If it looks good on the scan, I'll print it myself. I'm replenishing my fund for purchasing more goodies right now, so my next purchase will be either an enlarger or an M3.

Do yourself a favour and get a film scanner...even the crappiest film scanner is going to outperform the best flatbedscanner with transparency adapter. I hate my Epson 3200.

you really have a remarkable talent.

as for my scanning, i will be getting a film scanner soon. due to the efforts of a fellow forum member i am getting a used nikon scanner for the price of shipping.
i look forward to many frustrating evenings trying to figure it out.
in preparation i have spent part of my holiday time being frustrated by attempting to learn how to use my photoshop 7.
i really need to take a course.

Negatives only.

Having them put on cd at the same time will cost me 10 euros extra. Having them put on cd later will cost me at least 1 euro per neg, with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of about 100. AND I have to pay for a cd as well.

Any Dutchies here know of a cheaper place than Hema where I can have my negs developed and put on cd cheaply?

Generally, a contact sheet and negatives. If there's something I really like a lot, I'll have a print made.

In Westchester, they ask a fortune to scan the negs to CD - I have yet to find a shop that does it for a reasonable fee. There is a pro camera shop in Bronxville, NY that does nice work and they're close, but their scanning fee would make you queasy.

I scan the negatives myself when time allows which is not very often. I tend to make a lot of 4x6's off of the scans or from digi pics using a Canon inkjet.

With the world's cutest nine month old and sets of doting grandparents, aunts, uncles and even a great-grandmother clammoring for pictures, I can go through two or three 30-sheet pack of Ilford Gallerie Pearl paper in a matter of a week or so.

who can guess my favorite paper size ;-) ? I print 80% this size in my (improvised) darkroom. The Rest is 30x40 and some really small paper (13x18 🙂. No contact sheets (too much work).

RML, right now Camex has an offer to put the images on a CD for free, but only if you order 4x6 prints with the development... And only from colour 135mm negative.

Dutchies here know of a cheaper place than Hema where I can have my negs developed and put on cd cheaply?

I think that Albert Hein's service does it for cheaper if you get the scans done with development (at least here in Amsterdam). Not much cheaper, but a bit. I wasn't too happy with their printing though, which is what caused me to lose faith in (35MM) film (so I went digital until I discovered the wonderful world of MF folders.....)

But generally, the prices for scanning are silly. Especially when they have to scan them to print them anyway. But then most things are quite expensive here... I think it would probably work out better to get either a s/h film scanner, or something new like a DualScan IV.

For the MF stuff, it's develop only for all film, B+W, colour neg and slide (!), and scan on a flatbed. Up to A4 I'll print at home, bigger or better quality I'll have done by a proper camera/photo shop.
