The whole point IMO of a cd would be that I don't need to get no blinkin' prints. I really don't understand why I have to get prints as well. Online prints are quite cheap (Kruidvat is nearby and gives decent results) so if I need prints I'll get them that way. I would have thoughtat least here in Amsterdam there would be a place that offers cheap scans on cd but so far I haven't found any.

I scan all my negs on my SD3 but it takes tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime. I'm now about 40-50 rolls behind.
Really, for me a digital RF would be the solution for my film bill, development bill, and scanning load.

Rudi, what do you do with your large prints? Frame and exibit them? Causes a storage problem?

It's not really a problem. The output of a darkroom session is not so big (2 or 3 regular prints, 5 or 6 lith prints). After a few days reviewing them there is a really small number of prints left which is worth to be put on a wall.

The bigger problem is, that there are 2 kids which costs a lot of time. So there is (in common) just one session every 2 weeks.

For an exhibition my prints are not good enough. I have to do exercises for a few more years (maybe 20 or 30 of them ;-).

I usually get 5x7 singles then scan the negatives myself. At under $4 for a roll of 24 C-41 Kodak processing at BJ's, the price is hard to beat.

That is what I do Brian. I am still attached to the idea of having that print in my hand. Most of the time the prints are better than the results I get from scanning and playing with PS, so they serve as a benchmark for me.

In Canadian $ you win. Well, I use York because I am cheap.

5x7 Single, $6.55

I find the 5x7 print quality is decent. Probably better becasue they don't just throw it through the machine, they have to change the size setting, so perhaps they pay more attention to the whole process.

ugh, that's cheap! Here in the netherlands i pay approx. eur15(!) if i want development plus 4x6 prints of a 36 exp. roll... ok, one fresh film included. At the moment, i can ask for a second set of prints or a CD with scans, for free.
Development only would cost me eur3,50 i think.

The bigger problem is, the same thing for trad. BW would be eur25.

There are somewhat cheaper places tho', but the folks at the shop/lab know me already, and they give the best quality i've found so far.

Traditional B&W is more expensive due to the higher cost of the paper. For a roll of 24 with one 4x6 print I am looking in the $15 to $18 range. I don't know what the cost is to have the film developed and just print a contact sheep, but much less I am sure.

Single set of 4x6 matte. A CD is an extra $6 at time of processing or $7 for just the CD. I always look forward to picking up my prints at the shop and sitting down at home with my wife to look them over. I'm still trying to decide on a B&W film and she likes to "critique" my work.

For colour I'm in the develop only and scan to CD camp. I also request the lab to leave the negs uncut. I like strips of 6 for my filing system and my scanner so I prefer to do the cutting myself.

I do my own B&W then scan the entire roll as 8-bit jpegs and 16-bit TIFFs simultaneously (using VueScan). and use Photoshop to create a digital contact sheet from the JPGs. After working up some of the better frames, I then delete all the large TIFFs and keep the relatively small JPGs online for reference.

When I want 4x6" prints, I usually touch them up in Photoshop then upload them to an online printing service. I get better prints that way.

For 135 C-41: I go to Dodd (the local bulk semi-pro shop) and get development and 36 4x6 glossy prints for about $11.

For 135 B&W I just do it myself. About $.50/roll, or there-bouts.
(anyone _LOAD_ their own? Next project, perhaps)

For 120/220 I go right around the corner to Pro Color and C-41 runs $2 or $4 (with a $2 premium on push/pull!) for development which isn't bad at all and get 4x5/4x6/5x5 glossy prints for $.55 each; again, that's not bad.
