I'm doing a print swap on another forum, and have narrowed my images (any subject/topic) to the two linked here.

One of the participants doesn't like cats, so I'm planning to use the cat one for everyone, and the swamp/bog one for the cat hater.

What do you folks think? They have much more dynamic range than ca be seen on screen, when printed.

That's a nice cat. I'd be please receiving that print.

#2 is exactly the sort of image that doesn't work as a jpg viewed on a monitor so it's tough to give an opinion.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Yes, # 2 is a near IR (R72) photo as well, so it might not work well as a general landscape photo, but I've already got the print so we'll see. Thanks.

Are you not concerned about the busy/distracting background in the cat pic? Or maybe it adds to the pic and I'm just not getting it?

No, you're right

No, you're right

It is busy/distracting, but I'm hoping the focus on the cat's face and raccoon tail draw the eye away from the messy upper portion.

I'm not sure if I'll ever find the cats with the perfectly clean backgrounds without staging it.

I'd prefer the second one, assuming it's printed really well with all the necessary detail. The cat isn't my cup of tea.

It is a nice cat, but you can't take any credit for that. You are responsible for the image you make of the cat.

It's easy to take just an ordinary pic of an extra-ordinary subject.
A really good photographer is able to take an extra-ordinary pic of an ordinary subject.
