is the thing that you hold in your hand a photograph?

or is the thing that is on the paper the photograph?

is it a photograph on a monitor or is it an image?

does the paper hold an image as well?

my head spins sometimes...

i have decided to use the term 'image', especially for monitor or ipad presentations.

still not sure what to call that paper thing...

Maybe the "picture" itself is an image, and the whole "thing" including the medium such as paper or magazine page, newspaper page, or even monitor is a photograph?

Well you could call the thing on the paper a 'print' which applies regardless of whether it is produced conventionally or digitally.

All of this could be very confusing ... if it mattered?

A photograph is always an image but an image is not always a photograph.
