Hi,

I bought a black FM2n. It has the following quirk: I operate the film advance lever and only the shutter gets cocked but the film is not advanced :bang:.
It happened already twice. Once I was barely able to load a new film. The second time it happened mid roll. Both times the camera "repaired itself" meaning I don't know which of my hasty operations (rewind the film, shaking the camera) brought it back to normal.
It would help me if you could tell me about your experiences and some advice what to do.
Is it a common malfunction? Could it be that the film Transport is the FM2's weak spot?
Greetings from Vienna/Austria!

Are you accidentally pressing the film rewind button on the base of the camera? I've never had this problem with my FM3A (similar to your FM2n) but I have with a Zeiss Ikon rangefinder. Turned out that I was accidentally pressing this button with my pinkie finger on my right hand without realising. Caused many double exposures until figured it out.

This could be a good explanation. Google "double exposure nikon fm2" for specifics or just experiment with the double exposure control.

Thanks for the quick answer.
No I did not press the rewind button. I also have an FE 2 and never had that Problem with it. I also tried if I did accidentaly operate the double exposure Lever.

It will be a problem with a cam mechanism under the baseplate. It's relatively common. A camera repairer can fix it. Shouldn't be too much
