Problem with memory card slot

Dear fellow RFF enthusiasts,

since a few days I have a small problem, maybe one of you have a hint.

Here it is: After some shots, it is not possible to store pictures on the SD card anymore. The big "gauge" points to "E" instead of - lets say - 400.

Throwing out the card and pulling it in again will solve the problem from time to time; sometimes, it works only if I put the card half way in the slot and then close the slot.

I have taped the locking mechanism of the card which helps a little bit as well. And, it is not a problem with a specific card, some issue with cards as well.

Is this a comon problem?
Does anybody knows if the SD slots are a sort of standard part, may it be possible to swap the EPSON slot against one of e.g. a card reader?
Is this a do it yourself fix (have some experience in working with camreas and lenses, disassembling/reassembling of a CONTAX II for example is something I can manage)?

I would appreciate any comments.

Never heard of this problem so far. What kind of SD cards do you use? No high speed and no more than 2GB?

thanks for feedback. I assume it is a mechanical problem of the slot itself. The problem arises with each of my SD card, from 128 MB up to 2 GB. If I tape the lock/unlock switch of the card, the problem only arises from time time. Maybe the pin of the slot which detects the lock/unlock-position of the SD card is broken or misaligned? Has anybody tried to remove the slot and replaced it by another one?

If you have cleaned out the contacts and blown some air in the slot i cannot be of any help i'm afraid.

Back from my slot-car racing days we were told to rub the brass contacts with an eraser to improve conductivity (and thus make the cars go faster).

Are the contacts on your cards dirty at all? It might be those in the camera, but they're impossible to clean without disassembly I think.
