Problems with MP Navigator EX & Canoscan 9000F

Hiya folks, after a horrible day yesterday (My Nikormat FTn wasn't metering correctly, so I wasted two rolls of film. The 120 I shot had bubbles on it due to development errors) I got to fight with my 9000F for four hours.

For whatever reason, MP Navigator EX doesn't allow me to select 120mm as the format being scanned. I've downgraded and upgraded the software, tried multiple drivers and have fought with the program settings.

I have scanned 120mm film with the program before too.

Has anyone had similar problems?


PS - I'm well aware of Vuescan and Silverfast, I'm broke so it's not happening.
 
If i remember correctly i once had this too with the navigator and the 9000f. What fixed it for me was trying some combinations of turning off and on again my imac and the scanner one after the other and using another usb port.
I assume it was kind of a communication error between scanner and pc/mac making the navigator think the source is only capable of 35mm strips.

Thanks for the tips! I'll play around with it tonight. It was also suggested that I try scanning without the holders.

Something is telling me it might be the USB ports though, really hope so!

When I was working with Canon, we used to get all sorts of weird problems with the scanners related to USB. Make sure your cable is MAX 1,5m, preferably 1m or less.
If you have a desktop computer, always plug the cable in to the ports on the back side of the computer, since the front ones uses an extension cable to the main board which may degrade the brittle, delicate signals from your scanner.

I didn't believe this myself when I first started working there, but after experiencing it first hand with several models, I gave up using the front USB port :bang:
