Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but just picked up my first roll of processed film from my sparkling new (thanks to Camera Leather) 1959 Minolta Autocord. The film is Kodak Portra 160 in 120 size. The negatives look very, very good. They cut my film, which I had specified that they not do, but everything else looks fine. The cost was a whole 84 cents!

I'll try them next with the roll of Fuji Provia transparency film currently in the camera.

This past summer I took 4 rolls of 120 into Walmart (3 negs, 1 slide) I wanted them developed and the negs scanned...when I got them back I was a bit disappointed that the negs didn't get scanned but when I got them home a got a good look at what I shot it wasn't any great loss...all in all I would go back to Walmart for developing...
I was informed that I didn't Check the proper Box for scanning...next time...

Did I read that right? $.84? Wow! Did they do it in-house or send it out?

I spend over $3.00 to develop (not scan) a 12-exposure roll of Superia X-Tra at Walgreens. I'll need to go to WallyWorld.

I didn't ask for scanning because I prefer to do my own. The negatives are inserted into clear 120-size Print File pages and then the page is placed in my Epson 4990 scanner and the whole page scanned at once, thus making a contact sheet from which I can select the frames I want to scan individually.

My understanding is that they send the film to Fuji. Be careful, though, to ask for your negatives to be returned if you have them do scans, because they may give you the scans and destroy the negs.

Here are some instructions I think I got on this forum quite some time ago:

120 Film at Walmart:

Use the send out envelopes, and mark the Special Instructions box at the bottom SEND OUT ONLY! 120 SIZE C-41 NEGATIVE COLOR FILM. PROCESS ONLY. DO NOT CUT. SEND OUT!

Takes between 1 and 2 weeks.

I posted some time back my experience of giving 120 slides to Walmart. Never any film of any kind to them for me. Glad it worked out for you. I guess it depends on the store.

This discussion has been going on for years here at RFF.
Place 120/220 film in the processing envelop at the drop box near the photo department check out register. One roll per envelop. Fill out all required information. WRITE in the instruction area: Develop only. Do not cut. It seems to be hit & miss on the do not cut part.
One more time: THE FILM GOES TO A FUJI LAB. Not sure where it is. Fuji handles C-41 processing. E-6 film goes to Dwayne's. I think. Don't quote me on that. E-6 costs more than C-41.
My one bad experience: 1 roll of 220 C-41 film never came back. Everything else has been fine.
Enjoy.

Don't think scanning is available....

Don't think scanning is available....

Been using Walmart for years, for Medium Format using the Send Out Only process. Have never seen an option for scanning.

On the no return of negs, I think this is only for their processing on 135mm film, since they do scan and provide CD on that. No negatives back on 35mm film.

Crossing Walmart off my list of stores I enter...

Turns out they are one of, if not the, largest sellers of the Bushmaster Assault Rifle used by the DC Sniper, other school shootings, Aurora Co, and latest Newtown, Ct.

Furthermore, their ammunition is imminently shopliftable in most stores. They took the rifles off the shelves, rumor has it, but who knows. This here:

I'm open minded, but that's it!

Rite-Aid also sends out to Fuji and they do return the negatives. Cost is under 2 bucks a roll. Turnaround time is about a week to 10 days.

Not to derail this thread but how can they process for $.84 ?? Is the plan to drive out what remaining lab there is in each town or city ?

btw, not returning negs is just unbelievable.

I'm glad to know you're open-minded. Since you are, you'll be open to the fact that the reason most of these shootings happen at schools, theaters, malls, etc., is that they are gun-free zones. That fact offers no impediment to the individual bent on crime, but assures that there will be no one around to ventilate him when he opens up on innocent victims.

Not a single one of these mass murders could have been prevented by depriving law-abiding citizens of their right to own and use guns for hunting and self-defense. Criminals have always found a way to get guns, and gun-restrictive laws only keep citizens from defending themselves.

It is instructive to note that in Chicago, which has the toughest gun laws in the U.S., making it in effect the largest gun-free zone in the country, 444 children were killed by gunfire in 2011. Chicago also has one of the highest overall crime rates. But according to multiple studies by the FBI and others, violent crime rates have gone down everywhere concealed carry has been legitimized. Now that the courts have struck down Chicago's restrictive gun laws, expect the crime rate there to go down.

Although the media sensationalizes all such occurrences and the current administration has a policy of, in the words of Rahm Immanuel, "never letting a good crisis go to waste," mass murders have actually decreased since 2000. The peak year for mass murders, believe it or not, was 1929.

Heard it all and believe most of it....

I am an advocate of concealed carry and I do. I have the same paranoid delusions about the "coming invaders" as do all survivalists, and the fear of being overrun by the raging hords. This is the common delusion of most gun owners.

However, none of your well taken points have much to do with the "Assault Weapons" issue.

Gun control is actually more about the people who have the guns controlling access to them. This is the common failure in most shootings. Here we have a mother who took up sport shooting and it became a recreational hot spot in her live. Then she introduces shooting a "weapon of mass destruction" to a mentally unstable son. Result.. 28 dead people, her first with four in the face, then the children and six adults in the school, torn to shreds by, very likely, the most killingest bullets in the US armory of small arms weaponry. Have you seen the reasons why the .223 ammunition was designed and what it does to flesh. They did a lot of tests on pig bodies to hone it's killing force. Guns don't kill people, I agree. Bullets do.

The .223 AR15 and resulting weapons like the Bushmaster uses a bullet specifically designed to start tumbling once inside the body to do devastating and crippling damage, in some cases not even exiting the body. It must have been horrific for the first responders at newtown to come upon a roomfull of first grader bodies, some with as many as 11 entry wounds. I suspect some of them had to be picked up in pieces. The parents were not even allowed to identify the bodies, but only pictures.

So Please... continue to post your statistics.... PLEASE!!!

We have no justifiable need for civilians to own, and poorly control, assault weapons.

Love your user ID name... "loose canon"? You left out an N.

Now the NRA wants us to take the field of fire into the classrooms to meet the foe in the midst of the children.

Sorry, you lose.

No, if your ideas should carry the day, which they won't, we all lose.

Did you know, that although the medical examiner said the people died from .223 bullets, there was no AR16 or long gun of any kind found in the room? Only four handguns. The only long gun was locked in the trunk of the shooter's car, and it appeared to be some kind of shotgun. There's more going on here than meets the eye, and someone is covering up something, but I don't know who or what. If you are genuinely interested in this, I can send you links to some videos taken from helicopters above the scene.

Meanwhile, here's an interesting piece which is on point about so-called "assault weapons. http://pjmedia.com/blog/a-gun-crime-proposal-that-might-actually-help/

The $0.84 / roll for processing only is a bit variable. Folks have reported extreme prices of $2.00 + or -. As for driving locals out of business, they are mostly all gone in the 2nd/3rd largest U.S. city / Filmwasteland known as Houston, Tx.
If Walmart & Fuji can keep 120/220 C-41 processing going at $0.84/roll, I'm all in.

[rant] Take the politics elsewhere. I come to RFF to forget the rest of the world. To forget politics for sure. [/rant]

Dave,
Several people here reported that Walmart does not return negatives anymore. My local Walmart manager affirmed this fact. How did you get around it? Does Walmart witholdthe negatives on print orders and not on developing orders? Is it OK for 120 film?
