Processing or Camera?

Greetings,

My third roll of film through my new Bessa-R. Last 7 frames on a 24 exposure roll of C-41 B&W have weird fogging radiating in from the sprockets.

See two attached scans.

Could this be due to a light leak in the Bessa or from some possible error on the processor's end?

Looks like processing error. Light has leaked onto film.

Thanks for your thought, that is what I was figuring it was but decided to try to confirm it before going after the processor. This is odd, I've had these guys doing my C-41 for years without a problem.

I hate to resurrect this thread, but does anybody know if there was a resolution as to whether or not these streaks were camera leaks or a processing problem?

The last roll developed from my bessa had the same problem, but over the whole roll. I'm really hoping it's a processing problem -- I used the Rite Aid instead of the pro place. I'm going to try another test roll, but I'm leaving for Prague in 2 days for my vacation, so there's no time to replace my favorite camera! Argh!

Looks like over agitation, when done by hand in a small tank. Developer is forced through the sprocket holes and overdevelps the area exposed to the extra fresh developer. Be a little gentler on the developing.

Thanks for the insight; it gives me some hope. My film was machine done at the local drug store, but I guess they could have a similar problem.

If it's consistent throughout the roll, it's probably processing. If it's more obvious at one end of the roll than the other, it could be an exposure to light issue, which usually blooms.

Woo hoo! This is definitely a processing problem. I just had the roll before and the roll after my problem roll processed, and they're both perfect. Well, as perfect as they can be when I'm the guy with the camera. Thanks again to Thurows for your help.

The rebate (the sprocket area) should be uniform and clear, mask or black colour dependent on film type. If the rebate has patterns it could be casette leak, camera leak or processing fault, it is hard to tell.

The best clue is the edge printing that the manufacturer imposed this should be intact.
