When the R-D1 came out, reviews mentioned a production run of 10,000.
Is that a true a figure, does anyone know? It seems very low! Has there been a second production run?
Nearly 2 years after its launch, I thought I'd have difficulty finding a new one to buy, but that wasn't the case - it was very easy (at least in the UK).
However, on the Web (well, OK this forum only !) the highest serial number that I've seen mentioned is in the mid-4000s. Assuming sequential serial numbers, perhaps this means that Epson has only sold less than 5000 units - which seems very, very low if this is a worldwide figure, especially after almost 2 years?
Any thoughts, anyone?

It has been reported in a couple places that R-D1 sales were slow. It is a nice niche product, but cost 2x as much as a similarly featured DSLR (depending on your point of view, the DSLR is more capable). Bessa R2 sales were surprisingly low too, around 5000 total I believe.

No thoughts, really. I think you're right. SLow sales of an expensive niche product. One that I'm very happy with.
