Lightroom supports the R-D1/R-D1s without a problem.

Other programs are RawTherapee (http://www.rawtherapee.com/) and a commandline tool named dcraw (http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/) which produces excellent results, sometimes better than every other software (Windows binaries can be foud here: http://www.lebsanft.org/blog/index.php?cat=9).

There are many other programs which are able to handle R-D1 files if they have been converted to Adobe DNG format. The Adobe converter can be freely used and is found here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=windows&product=39.

So every program which is able to handle DNG or TIFF files (produced by dcraw) can work indirectly with R-D1 files.

From my personal experiences I can recommend Lightroom.

I tried 7 RAW converters. Some do some things well and others do other things well, but in the freeware bracket; XnView, RAW Therapee, and Picasa2 (only converts to JPEG) are all different and worth trying.

Raw Developer

Raw Developer

I usually use the Epson converter, either the stand-alone or more often the plug-in. But for some difficult colour situations with concert photography I have used Raw Developer:

I have an earlier version, as the newer one is not compatible with Mac OS X 2.8, which I guess is getting pretty ancient now.

Thanks for providing the software for us, RML. Are you sure that you offer the latest version of PhotoRaw? I think V1.01 is now outdated. As far as I know the last version is 1.21. Epson offers it here: http://tinyurl.com/32axqh.

Ah. I hadn't noticed that! Thanks.
