Hi RF Addicts out there,
I have just started to look for a 6x6 projector on ebay. I'd like to project XPan slides.
Has anyone ever projected XPan images?
And one more thing, I don't want to spend another fortune on it, already pressed out the price of my beloved XPan. I am looking for somothing like a Noris Plank 6x6.
If youhave one (or something similar) I could give you 2-3 fab FED2s in exchange.
I look forward to reading your professional advice, opinion or jokes on this subject.

Do XPan slide mounts exist? Certainly not compatible with 6x6, I think, as the XPan frame is 24x65mm wide (isn't it?), so about a centimeter too large in the long direction. There certainly could be slide mounts of the same outside dimensions as 6x7 (56x68mm window) slides with a smaller window (23x64?) cut for XPan format. But I don't find that at B&H's site.

Cabin and Goetschmann (very good, but expensive) make 6x7 slide projectors.

The Luminous Landscape review of the XPan links to InkJet Art Solutions as a source for mounts for XPan negs. They fit into a standard (expensive) 6x7 projector.

The slide mounts that you should be using are the GEPE glass mounts if you are going to be projecting them. The stock solution slide mounts are called "presentation
mounts" these are for showing your slides on a light table not for use in a projector,
you also buy the ind plastic sleves for the presentation mounts so nobody gets finger prints on the slides. It's a really professional way to show off your shots.

If I am correct, you can buy slide mounts for the 35mm panaramic format of the Mamiya 7II from Mamiya -- http://www.mamiya.com/cameras.asp?id=1&id2=24
If you go to the menu at right and click on "paper slide mounts", they are what I am talking about. They are made for 24x65mm images. Of course, then you will need a projector -- again, Mamiya makes them (under the Cabin name), but they are fairly expensive.

You will need a 6x7 projector. The gepe mounts are number 2702.
I suggest that you look for a s/h Liesegang Diafant. These are relatively small and thertefore more portable than the heavy weight Goetschmann projectors.

Yes, you do need a 6x7 projector if you want to use the full width of the XPAN format. However, I use the Hasselblad 6x6 projector, so I crop the slide to the 54mm width of that format. This works out fine, as long as you keep that final crop in mind as you are shooting. Although--and especially with the 30mm lens--there is often unnecessary coverage at one or both ends of the image, even when I wasn't thinking about the final crop during shooting. In that case, cropping can improve the image.
