Hi guys, I have a Super Baldax with a Prontor-SVS shutter that I bought from certo6/Jurgen. The reason for this posting is that I'm not entirely sure what exactly what the three modes are for. Here's what I've noticed:

M: flash sometimes fires, otherwise shutter seems to operate normally.

X: normally I would assume this is the flash-sync mode, but I can't really tell since the flash doesn't always fire on this mode. Shutter sticks sometimes.

V: when press the shutter release, the shutter snaps and the flash fires. After that, something that sounds like a self-timer starts, and after that is done, nothing happens. I think this is the self-timer mode, and my self-timer is broken?

I would appreciate some diagnosis as to whether my shutter is operating normally and I just don't know how to use it, or if my shutter is truely broken and needs to be sent in for repairs. I haven't been able to find much documentation on the Prontor-SVS shutter.

On a Prontor SVS,
M = magnesium filament flash sync (flashbulbs)
x = electronic flash sync
V = 10-second self timer

Your camera probably needs a CLA and it sounds like you may have a short or a bad connection in there.

definitely not working correctly, on V setting the flash should fire once the self timer has run down. M setting you dont need (for flash bulbs). X setting is where you leave it at other times..if shutter is sticking then its another indication it needs a CLA

With the flash firing irregularly like that, I think he has a bad electrical connection too, or maybe a broken wire, making intermittent contact. I hate those. Intermittent faults like that may test fine five times in a row before becoming detectable on the sixth.

ughhh... and I only have $60 in my bank account. Hopefully I'll have a summer job by the end of this week.

Thanks guys.

I'd rather save some money and go for a full CLA later because the CRF needs to be cleaned (and possibly adjusted) as well.

Well, the good news is that, since it is a C6 camera, you can send it back and he will try to fix it for free. The bad news is that (unles he just replaces the shutter) it most likely still won't work right. His work is mostly cosmetic. He isn't very good at actual repair.
