After trying lots of things (bubble wrap, Domke wrap, odd boxes, etc), I went to a local camera store where they have boxes upon boxes of used accessory leather cases and was able to find a few that now protect my finders. Cost me about $1.50 a box.
I'll second that - I've got the cases for CV21 and 15 too, and they really are good. For my other finders I have the original cases (which I guess doesn't really help with the question very much, sorry).
I don't protect the finder at all. I let it flop about with the lens, keys, films, etc. It hasn't become significantly scratched, and unless it was badly cracked or completely broken, it would still throw up the framelines.
Sewed up ultraswede into bags and deposited the finder for which I do not have cases. 12 and 15 get the double ended CV case for lens and finder.
The 21 and 28 and 35 Leica metal finders live in proper leather cases. I bought mint ones years ago and they have become valuable. I treat them with respect. That`s the problem with having something nice.
the smaller ones live in film canisters, the larger ones I put in baby socks that my toddler has outgrown. Go to Target, and you will find them in the baby section.
Gotta love the digital folks. They make all these cute little cases. 🙂
My solution for now is to wrap the 21 finder in a lens cleaning cloth and zip it up in the Tamrac Memory & Battery Management Wallet 2 that I just found at my local camera store. The little wallet is made of tough nylon and will even clip on my belt (though I doubt I'll make use of that feature). The one finder fits very nicely, but the case will actually fit two finders (in case GAS gets the better of me and I wind up springing for the CV 15, or maybe the 25, or... 😀 ).
Even better! Wrap the CV 21 finder in a lens cleaning cloth, place it inside the rectangular hood, and the whole thing fits perfectly into this little Tamrac case. I like it. 😀
