Here's what I have been told about "new" tri-x. I don't remember the source, and this could be misinformation...
About 3 years ago, Kodak decided to eliminate a separate film base for Plus X and Tri X for cost control purposes and began putting these emulsions on the base developed for the T-max series films. Hence the fixing troubles, if they are truly a problem.
My "solution" has been to use Ilford's HP5.

that's exactly what I heard about the change too.

Also, I'd agree with no presoak for two-bath developers as this would prevent an adequate amount of developing agent soaking into the emulsion.

But the color from tmx emulsions is from sensitizing dyes, not the AH layer, for the most part. These dyes are not used in TXT as far as I know.

Test your fix on a film tail end. You know the bit you cut off before loading onto the reels.
Drop it into your fix, and see how long it takes to go clear. The minimum fix time is double the clear time.
But do beware that the fix can die while fixing your film, so you can also do the test after you have fixed the film.

I use Ilford rapid fix 1+4. I fix tri-x and HP5 for three minutes, and Tmax films for 6-7 minutes. I agitate every 30 seconds ish.

I usually use a stop bath, but a standing water stop can be good for trying to get the shadows to come on when pushing a film.
