Someone on movies.stackexchange asked what the purpose of the "red room" was in the Netflixs show Stranger Things. Now I feel really old, even their parents probably didn't know what it was for.

Knowing what the purpose is of such a "red room" indeed shows your age.
In my younger years I worked as a service engineer for IBM and lately I had to explain the concept of a "punch card" to a mid thirties guy.
Let alone talking about "morse code" as a way to communicatie to someone with an Iphone X (Also worked as a ships Radio Officer in the 70s)
But: The only alternative for growing old is: Not growing old"!
So I am happy with the "Golden Years" my wife and I experience.

HA!!! That's hilarious. I had no idea what you meant by "red room" as I've never watched Stranger Things, but it is funny how kids these days don't know about things that were popular "not that long ago".

I wonder why they chose red, most darkrooms are amber unless using ortho / litho materials? Movie effect I guess.
On age differences, have you seen the YouTube videos where they give teenagers a rotary-dial phone and ask them to dial a ten-digit number... hilarious!

Oh! At first I had thoughts of "The Shining".....a different red-room (redrum?)
But now I've put it together. Red room. That's great! My red room is a corner of the garage -- kind of a dingy off-white/brown color, but glows red when I'm doin stuff
.
My son (now 23) is completely flummoxed by the rotary phone. I try not to laugh, I don't want to give him a "complex".
He also thought records (vinyl) were huge CDs when he was in middle school. Again, tried not to laugh. Today he's a vinyl afficionado, so there's hope for these youngsters.

When my son was seven, he looked at the back of my Canon A-1 and told me it was broken. When I asked him why he thought it was broken, he pointed at the square black center piece on the back, (where you put the end flap of a film box to remind yourself what film you have in the camera, (which was empty at the time)) and said, "There's no picture on the screen."
