Push TMY-2 to 800

Hi, I am wondering what the proper developing time is if I want to push Tmax400 to 800 (to retain high shutter and DoF: 1/1000 f/16) on a sunny contrasty day with HC-110 using 1+50 diluition to get good acutance and low grain. By the way, do I need to push dev +1 stop if I expose @ 800 in the first place? At box speed I think I'd go something like 7 mins 20° What would you suggest? Thanks

If I remember correctly, Kodak in their literature say that no increase in dev time is required when shooting TMY-2 at 800. But when I need to push a stop, I start off by add 33% (x1.33) to the time stated for box speed, or the time I use for box speed. So in your case 9-10mins. See for yourself, its best way of judging what works.

Yes. I always liked that Kodak recommendation. It seems to bug people, but there is a lot of insight about push processing and about TMY in that recommendation..

I can only agree with former posters. Just follow Kodaks recommendation and develop same as box speed. Tmax 400 is my main film in all filmformats.
It.s one of the films strengths you can change iso between 400 and 800 midroll and develop as usual.

So if I increase in dev time I will make it a just bit more contrasty? I mean contrasty enough to print on a grade 2/3?

If you shoot on a sunny, contrasty day you already have a contrasty negative if you develop normaly. Like i said iso 400 or 800 does not matter with Tmax. Why would you want to increase contrast even further with extending developing times? I go for less contrasty negatives anytime and make the print as contrasty as i like in the printing stage. So choose grade of paper or filtration with VC paper to your liking.

On a sunny day when light is strong and shadows are deep one needs to pull the film, not push. My normal recipe for TMY2 @ 400/800 and HC-110 is dilution H ( = half amount of developer juice compared to dilution B) and develop for 12 minutes. Dil. H compensates a little bit compared to Dil. B and helps to tame the contrast.
