Over a year ago I picked up a J-3. When I tried the lens on my Bessa R I found the lens was front focusing. I posted a thread here http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51731
and found the shim, with the help of Brian Sweeny & Kim Coxon to be too thick. The other week I finally got around to making a new shim for the lens replacing the 1.5mm shim with a shim of around 1/2 the thickness. Here are a couple of shots with the Bessa R & my J-3.

Both farther than 2m and aperture seems to be at about f8 : you wouldn't notice even if it was still off.

Fine-tuning the lens close-up and and at wider apertures will require more precise measuring and checking focus at film plane.

But if you plan to shoot most pictures in similar way (i.e. d>2m and f>8) then you've got a nice lens there...

I couldn't even get a clean focus before at these apatures. I shot some with the lens wide open & was pleased. But most of my shooting will probably be at at f4 to f8. I do wan't to shoot at night some because I like the way the bokeh oof's with the J-3.
