QL-17 GIII issue

My QL-17 GIII flash hot shoe has quit working on me. When I first purchased the camera about six months ago I bought the canonlite D flash, and everything worked just fine. Now the hotshoe will not fire any flash. The PC link does work however. Any ideas what could cause this. I have thought that it could be the battery, but I don't wan't to waste my back up.

It sounds like a corroded connection under the top. There are some contacts under the top so you can take it off without wires. I would take to top off and clean it all to see if you get it back. You could clean the finder while you are there.
