Hello fellow rangefinder-loving people!

I'll get right to it.

I've been using my QL19 for a while now, never wanting a 17 because I prefer the 45mm lens, but last week I won one cheap on the bays of e, just to add it to the collection.

It arrived today. Initially, it seemed fine (exept of course those pesky light seals) but after a closer inspection, I've found a defect.

When I wind/cock the camera, the lever doesn't lock. I can keep on winding film, even though I haven't released the shutter. Also, the little indicator window does not turn red.

Any ideas?

Also, the rangefinder seems to be out of alignment, at least from my tests along with my 19 (focussing on the same thing, reading the distance on the lens)

kind regards

Stig

First, welcome to RFF. You might want to go to the Members Only/Intros ( http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=74 ) and introduce yourself. Also, have you searched for anything on that using the search function? I seem to remember someone asking about that before.

Not a cure, but have you checked to see if your film advance sprockets are turning when you cock the shutter? Is the rewind release button being held in too far?

Hopefully someone else will be able to give you more advice.

Certainly, I was just about to 🙂

I have, but apparently with the wrong key words, because now I've found Rick Oleson's Tech Notes.

Yes, I noticed it while shooting a test roll.

Okay, so I've openened the camera and have followed the notes.

rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-30.html

however, what part am I supposed to bend? And in what direction? I don't want to try too much, I don't want to break it!

Take a look at the picture showing the front plate removed in the link. Now while watching the mechanism cock the camera. There will/should be one lever that moves top to bottom and another that moves to lock it.
With a tweezers you can gently nudge the visible levers/ One of them should lock the advance. Once identified, a drop of old fashioned lighter fluid or Naptha should free it up.
If it's been bent, it's pretty simple to give it a gentle tweak with a small pliers to straighten it

I managed to fix the problem I had with the winder. Now after putting it back together, I've noticed, when set to 1.7, the aperture blades still close a bit when I half depress the shutter. Sigh. 🙁

Thanks for all responses!
