Got a DOA QL 19 from anandi. The app blades were stuck. Then I started playing with it and the shutter blades stuck also. Out came the tools and lighter fluid. Lots of help from G'man and a few choice words, one scratch and one bandaid later the shutter and app is a working again. Now all I need is a battery (hope the meter works)

Gotta catch the light.
Cool! I like to see a happy ending. The build quality on that camera is topnotch. There's a place called Alexander battery in ottawa: http://www.alexanderbattery.com/
That still has some stock of the cells used in the QL19 when I called a while ago. I never did follow up, though.

Beauty eh?...can you give me some idea what needs to be done. I have a QL19 with a stuck shutter.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

you need to remove the front element to get at the shutter. Clean it with lighter fluid to get it free and get any dirt or gum of the blades. If you use q tips be sure not to leave fibers in the blades. Keep working on it till they move freely even when dry. give the inside of the back element a clean and reassemble.

I too have a camera like this one. Initially the shutter blades were stuck.
I have removed the front elements and soaked the shutter blades with lighter fluid. Now when I press the shutter button the shutter blades wriggle about but do not open. It has been at this stage for several months.
I have a feeling that the next stage is either to take the top off or take the front off (or both) and bend a lever somewhere.
Please can somebody point me in the right direction.

Hi Richard,
The secret is patience (and lots of ronsonol!). The worst one I had to deal with was a QL19E. Having an electronic programmed shutter made life a lot more difficult. It was a case of Clean, let it dry, clean and dry again almost ad nauseum but in the end it freed up and now seems to work well. It is important to let it all dry out properly in between. It can help to take both the front and rear lens groups out so you can get at both sides. There should be no need to "bend" anything. If you get stuck, I am just up the way in Lincoln.
