There's a GIII on eBay that looks rather nice. However, the seller notes that when the battery test button is pressed, the light comes on and stays on, until the battery is dead.

The button is not apparently jammed (it jumps back out). Is this likely to be a mechanical problem or an electronic one?

Thanks for any advice.

It is rare to find one of these cameras with a working test lamp. The test button presses against a simple leaf switch which grounds a circuit. It would be simple enough to remove the top cover and either tighten the screw which holds the switch, or simply to cut the wire that runs to the lamp.

The meter in the Canonet is almost irrelevant. They are seldom accurate, and only work when the camera is in auto mode. So long as the lens is clean, and the shutter fires at all speeds, any Canonet is fine.

Heh, yeah, taking the battery out should turn off the test lamp 😉

I'd check all the contacts for corrosion (battery test circuit is different from the meter circuit). And make sure the leaf switch behind the test button is clean.
