QL17GIII, where to send for a service?

The repairers I know in the UK won't service the QL17. In their view, the cost of a service is more than the camera is worth. If it is working "just fine", why do you need it serviced? If the seals are soft, you cam get a kit from Jon Goodman that will do about 5 cameras for around $5. As far as the finder is concerned, it is relatively easy to take the top off and clean it yourself. The QL17 repair manual is on my website here http://pentax-manuals.com/repairs.htm.

If you need any help or advice, there are several threads on the forum or send me a message and I will try to help.

Hi and thanks for the kind reply. Yes the camera is working fine but there is one thing that is bothering me: The shutter speed dial is really stiff, it rotates but it does get in the way and takes more effort/strengh than I regard as acceptable. Regarding the viewfinder, I think it really needs a clean. I will give the manual a look and might give it a try though my experience/skill is quite limited regarding technicall stuff...

Wow!! I took the plunge and opened the body today (was i scared of messing something up...) and after cleaning the VF parts, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I still have a hard time seeing the yellow patch (which was invisible before) but it definetely has improved impressively. thanks for the tips!!

Hi Photon-hunter,

Like you, I'm afraid to mess up my fully functional QL17 GIII. I just bought a Canonet 28 to practice repairs on. 🙂 If all goes well with that one I'll continue with a viewfinder cleaning of the "main" camera.

If the 28 survives the treatment, I think it will be useful together with the Canolite flash.
