i know i'm not the first one and i doubt that i will be the last but i wanted to make my own comment on the first rate work done by george milton at qlm.

he was quick and efficient and he fixed the aged metrastar meter to like new again. it has been calibrated and now uses a 625 alkaline battery and some of it's innards have been replaced.
the bottom line is it now works great.
and his customer service is good also.
i emailed him when i started to worry about the meter being lost in the mail.
he emailed me back and told me that sometimes it seems to take a bit longer returning parcels to canada.
when it still was a no show i again emailed him.
this time he called me back. that's impressive...

I third the praise for George! Not only is he a very patient man, he's also very honest and reliable. He brought back to life my old Leica-meter MR... and also cleaned the housing in the process. I sent him a meter that looked and acted very old and rickety, and he sent me back a spiffy, bright tool that has performed gloriously on my M3.

Let it be known that he's for meters what DAG and Sherry Krauter are for Leicas! 🙂
 
OK, I'm piling on here... 😀

George is a great guy. Just re-calibrated one of my Weston Ranger 9's and will re-build the other.

By the way, George showed me a neat trick if you have a Ranger 9. The way it is originally designed, the battery positive (+) position is down in the holder. This was OK for the old batteries but modern replacements are smaller and putting the negative side up means there is a possibility of shorting the batteries out with the original, too large, spring. By merely un-soldering, swapping, then re-soldering the leads inside the case, the positive side is up and there is no possibility of a short. One of those "Duh!, Why didn't I think of that" moments.

George is a nice guy and VERY good with client communication. I think he can resurrect any old Weston ever made and is a wizard with all other meters too.

I'll continue the piling on. I've accumulated a bunch of old meters and have this hang up that they all work. George has put them all right and twice called me to to tell me that the meter wasn't worth what he had to charge me to get it working. He' a rarity these days.

That's close to what the two meters I sent in averaged -- the bill was around $130 or $140 for the pair and it was money well spent.

I don't know who DAG and Sherry Krauter are (😉), but George is to meters what Henry Scherer is to Contax (well, almost -- I have to flatter Henry a little, he still has one of my cameras).
 
I too have dealt with George.... and have to say his service was BRILLIANT!

He didn't even mind when I began getting a bit worried about whether my meter would ever arrive there....just to make it more interesting my meter was sent from England and then had to be shipped to Australia!

George was very cool and handled it like the pro that he obviously is....the Weston Master now works a treat and is even accurate in very low light.

Anyway great guy, great service HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

PS. You have to like a guy who even signs his own work.... I refer to the small service tag he added to my Weston Master case that shows it was serviced by QLM and signed by George. Great sign of a great repairman.

George overhauled and recalibrated my two Weston Vs. He was superb. It was $130 for the pair, he replied as soon as they arrived to confirm price, was patient when I mis-transcribed one digit of my credit card and the payment was refused (!), told me when they were finished, and sent them promptly. They work superbly, and at last I have two totally accurate meters I can compare others to. An absolute pleasure. I've had various other repairs recently for other cameras, some were ok but nowhere near as pleasant to deal with, others - including a leading London Leica dealer - pretty useless, taking months to get back to me. I'm very grateful I found George's details, probably via PN, and I wish everyone else were as efficient as he is.
 
Sorry to resurrect an old post but does anyone know if Frank is still repairing meters? I've come into a beautiful Weston Zone V with cases and invercone and I'd like to improve its erratic function.

I've used QLM for a number of years and will continue to do so.

I'm going to send him another Ranger 9 for calibration back to factory specs so I can convert it to silver oxide.

The previous owner had it converted to alkaline which works fine till it has used approx 1/3rd of its voltage then the readings are off by 1-2 stops..
 
Wow! Many thanks to all who replied. An e-mail has been sent and am expecting a reply. I bought my Master V on the strength of the success my father had had with his Master (unnumbered) from the 40's. I still have it and may get it re-furbed. My Dad has been gone since 1978 so it'd be nice to be able to put his old meter to use again.
