I recently bought a "like new" 90mm Elmarit from KEH.com. The lens does look brand new and mounts fine on the camera (just cla by Youxin) but when focusing on an object at a distance of about three hundred yards, the item comes into focus at a distance about half way between the infinity mark and the 20 meter mark. And then when turned all the way to infinity, the object goes out of focus. What is the infinity distance for this lens?
Will this affect picture sharpness even when the object of the picture is in sharp focus in the rangefinder? Even though I always focus every picture and never scale focus this camera, is this something that I should send back to Keh.com for adjustment?

Hi,

In your shoes I'd try it with a film in the camera and then send it back as you'd want if perfect and you've paid for one 'as new'.

I don't know their T&C's so it might be wisest to advise them that you are going to film test it and it may take time; meaning you then don't have to do it in a rush.

FWIW, my guess is that the scale has just moved around over time and just needs a screw or two loosened and moving back. But that's a guess...

Regards, David

The last time I needed to use the KEH guarantee, they were allowing six months.

Try focusing on the moon. If it doesn't go all the way to infinity, I would send it in.

You need to figure out if the problem is with the lens or the body.
If you have another (known good) lens, verify that the rangefinder is accurate at infinity first. Youxin is good, but he can make mistakes. Luckily he is very quick to correct them.
On the lens, turn it towards infinity until it stops. Does the infinity mark line up? If not, the scale is shifted, and should be returned/repaired.
