Question about Leica/film

Hello - I just ordered a FED 3, and found the following on one website: "The bottom loading Leica copy requires a Leica style film leader, which is 18 to 22mm wide and 85mm long, and then curves upwards for a total length of 10 or 11 cm. WARNING there must be no sharp edges as they will catch on the shutter curtain and damage the rubber backing. "

Does this mean that I have to trim the film of a regular 35mm roll to approximate the "Leica leader", or will a regular 35mm roll work ok as-is?

I just re-read your question....the information about cutting the film is not inside the camera, it's on some internet site...so I take back what I said about using a long lead....My suggestion would be to ask the guy who sold you the Fed...regards, bob

FED3 back comes off

On FED3 the back comes off. I have a non-working FED3.

I had a fed 3 and have never had any problems with factory film leaders.

I think the seller is saying that if you are bulk loading your own cassettes that you should make a leader like the retail box cassettes.

FED 3 is not a bottom loader. It has a removable back and is just as easy to load with normal manufactured film as any "modern" 35mm camera.
