Question about storing fixer....

Sorry for the stupid question guys, but I have searched the internet and couldn't find anything...so, here it is...

Do you store your fixer in a dark (opaque) bottle.....Is fixer light sensitive like d-76?

I am pretty sure it isn't, but I am having second thoughts.

BTW, not that it matters, but I am using kodak fixer.

I believe fixer is only affected by air.

Not light sensitive. Quite a few of the fixers we sell @ LG actually come in transparent bottles... (Ilford Hypam, Lauder fixers, Kodafix, etc)

Hey Brian thanks...I remember when I worked there (over 10 years ago now) that I used to mix the chemicals in the morning before we opened, and I am pretty sure that it was stored in an opaque bottle....and yes, even here in Bangkok, I have seen liquid fixer come in transparent bottles ( Ilford)...anyways, I was second guessing myself because the Kodak fixer (powder) comes in an envelope very similar to d-76....thanks for clarifying that up....

I do miss the "photographic community" at Looking Glass...it is quite different for me here in Bangkok...I have to "hunt" for everything here and sometimes, I just got to get what they have, options are limited....but I am not complaining....I can usually find the basics, but it's not as easy as it was back home....

Somehow my fixer ain't sensitive to anything.
I keep it in emptied PET mineral water bottles.
After 10-12 films i mixed a new batch (distilled water) but kept the old half litre which looked rather dirty already. At some point i tested the old one...Still clears film in less than 3 minutes.
The plastic bottles do show funky silvery-black discoloration where the fixer touches them, like something is depositing on the walls, but the fixer still works.
I don;'t use the fixer for more than 12 films per 500 ml because it gets dirty, but i don't care about the light or oxygen. Maybe it's the chemistry of 2009 that makes the dfifference, maybe the oxygen- or light damaged fixer ideas are just urban legend- don't know.

Well it does sensitive to money in your pocket if you mixed it up with the developer ^^

I decant all developers and fixers into small bottles. I have a gallon of TF4 that is in 16 oz bottes that around 2.5 to 3 years old. Works fine.

What makes you think D76 is light-sensitive ???
