I've got a Fuji XT-10, and I am using the electronic shutter just because (also, I like the idea of have a shutter with a top speed of 1/30,000 of a second, or somewhere in that range.) Now, the mechanical shutters of most digital cameras are rated at around 150,000 actuations before they fail. Some go far beyond that, I have read. But is there any limit on the actuations of an electronic shutter? If there are no moving parts, other than the sound effect of my camera, what is there to wear out?

Thanks to all who reply.

With best regards,

Excellent question, Pfreddee(Stephen)! I also use the electronic shutter, except when I shoot with my flash, because I love shooting silently.

But I don't have any idea about how to answer that question. I'll look forward to hearing from the wizards in the Forum.

A rolling electronic shutter will wear out when the camera CPU/sensor electronics die. For all practical purposes, there is nothing whatsoever specific to shutter actuation to wear out and the electronics will not fail earlier just because you always invoke the rolling shutter circuitry.

If you haven't noticed the image distortion and artifact issues common for rolling electronic shutter usage by now, you probably won't notice them in the future.
