Question about Using Tripod with Mamiya 6

I was shooting waterfalls yesterday with my FM2 and would like to do this with my Mamiya 6 but realized I don't have a plate for it like I do for my FM2.

I then started reading in the manual and saw a part called a "Tripod adapter N" which, it stated, was common to a M645 Super.

What plate are others using to mount their Mamiya 6 to a tripod? And are they using the "Tripod adapter N"? I'd rather not purchase a part which I don't need and I'm not sure I need the "Tripod Adapter N".

BTW, I am using a Gitzo tripod with a Markins M-10 ballhead.

I'd be interested in hearing about the experiences of others using the Mamiya 6 with a tripod.

I have mounted my Mamiya 6 to a tripod without a plate, using the 1/4 inch screw on the bottom.

I believe the "N" adapter only raises the camera bit in a way that allows you to reload film wihout removing the camera from the tripod, which you otherwise have to do.

So, just screw the Mamiya 6 directly, and have fun!

The Mamiya tripod adapter is just a spacer that enables film to be replaced while the camera is mounted to a tripod. It is pretty useless for my style of shooting, but it would be handy if you did multple rolls without wanting to take the camera off the tripod.

The RRS/Arca/Kirk system with quick release plates is the way to go IMO.

I'm using the Kirk plate on the Mamiya 6 and find that the easiest solution for me; since most everything else has Arca type plates on them as well. You can still close the curtain with the plate in place, and its quite small compared to other plates.

I use the same tripod and ballhead as you have. You can buy a camera plate from Markins that fits the M10 Ball head mount. I keep the plate on my Mamiya 6 RF. Takes seconds to mount and remove the camera.

I have the M-10 ballhead and the Quick Release Clamp with Knob release.

I went to check out the plates that Markins had for sale on their website and I found the following plate for the Mamiya 7 but it didn't say if it would fit the Mamiya 6.

It's plate PG34N.

Is this the one you're using on the Mamiya 6?

I also checked the RRS and Kirk websites and they had camera plates for the Mamiya 6.

If the plates for the Mamiya 6 and Mamiya 7 are the same, I can go with the Markins plate. But if the Mamiya 6 plate and the Mamiya 7 plate are different, then I better buy another brand of camera plate than Markins.

I use the PG-30U on my Mamiya 6. Its smaller than the PG34N (you can see the dimensions on the Markins websites), but is otherwise the same design, i.e., has antitwist flange. On the 6, it does not overhang the body. Its flat enough to keep it mounted all the time.
