I'm looking at tablets. In the house I have iPad versions 2 and 3. Neither can log into this site. The Login button (actually several buttons) are not responsive.

I went to the Apple store today and tried an iPad 9. It behaves the same way; doesn't work. I also tried an iPad Air and it worked fine, but I'm not interest in that one.

Have you experienced this with your iPad? If so, is there a fix or workaround? Thanks.

John

We are all Mac in this house but I don't claim to be very savvy on them, but....... The operating systems on all the pads and phones is pretty much the same so there shouldn't (?) be any reason one will work on the site and others won't. Were any of them ones that can use your phone server rather than wifi? Was wifi on in all of them? Seems odd to me. I don't care to use the OS on those devices for anything on the internet. Too old and too long on computers to change I guess.

John, I tried my old iPad 4 using Safari and it works fine. What browser are you using?

If you are experiencing browser incapatibility, I use the DuckDuckGo app on my iPhone and don't experience any problems. That might be an option.

Another thing to check for is to see if Javascript is activated in your browser advanced settings and see if that helps.

I am reading and posting this on a gen 1 iPad pro, works fine for me, I can test later today with a vanilla iPad, if that would help.

Thanks everyone. I'm using Safari, and Javascript is enabled. I'm stumped and will look at the Surface Go and some Android tablets.

I have trouble on my iPhone SE (new model) when trying to access the site. It happened on my previous iPhone SE as well. Also I use both DuckDuckG and Safari and I have issues with both whether on Wi-Fi or the phone system.

When I attempt to access this forum about half the time it will only load about 15% and then freeze and will not load the page any farther. I wind up having to just pull up another website and come back to RF at a later time and hope it loads. RFF is the only site that this happens with. Even after I’ve gotten the site to load it’ll often freeze as a page is attempting to load. Again this happened on my previous phone. This phone is on the current iOS as I bought it new this year.

Yeah, we all get the timeout, now with increasing frequency. Supposedly a new server is in process.

My iPad issue is the inability to log in. The login button is not recognized as a link and does nothing.

I'm not set on an iPad and will explore other options. Thanks again.

Recently I began accessing RFF with a iPad Pro/Apple Magic Keyboard using iOS 16. It works perfectly. I have more login failure issues using a MacBook Pro (late 2020 and Ventura/Safari.

You might try using manual DSN servers. I use 1.1.1.1 ; 1.0.0.1 and 8.8.8.8. I delete the DNS server that is automatically assigned by my ISP (ATT Fiber). This change has eliminated the vast majority of internet issues over the years.

I've not had any problems logging into RFF with either of my iPads (iPad Pro 11", first gen and iPad Pro 12.3", first gen), or my iPhone 11 Pro ... all running the latest iOS/iPadOS operating system and browser.

The RFF server has, of late, been flakey with ALL my devices and with my Mac mini (2018, macOS Ventura 13.0.1) system as well, sometimes not allowing login and other times stalling in the midst of a session requiring that I close and restart the browser before it responds again. I think this is a server problem, not a macOS/iOS/iPadOS or browser problem as it happens across all OS and browser versions, including different browsers (Safari and FireFox are what I use).

iPads are not generally named by number, btw, so I don't know what an 'iPad version 2 and 3' or 'iPad 9' is. That said, be sure that whatever device you're using is using the latest, most up-to-date OS and browser available for the best compatibility.

Yes, that's true, Godfrey. "Generation" would be the correct term for Apple's iPad versions. Mine has the latest OS for that device. I expect the one I tried in the store does, too.

Anyone, I'm moving on from iPads. This should not be so challenging. Thanks again, everyone.

I have an iPad 7th generation and it logs on smoothly if I remember to disable the default upper case letter setting when entering my username. I don’t understand why Apple built in that default.

?? None of my Apple devices have ever defaulted to an "upper case letter setting"...? In fact, Apple has a specific command somewhere in the text input settings to enable case sensitive operation: It's something you have to choose to do. Most Apple defaults, when it comes to the operating system, are for non-case-sensitive operation, particularly with respect to the file system and file naming. Apps can have different defaults, but none of the Apple apps I know of have an "upper case default" configuration.

On iPad naming, I was using the colloquial rather generational:

I suspect that is a forum software problem and not a problem w/ your iPhone. I have a recent iPad Air and routinely experience significant problems logging on to RFF in the first place and moving between forums once I manage to log on.

Then the forum software is making the initial letter of my username upper case every time I login unless I manually make it lower case. Which is a bit of a pain, along with the apparently essential "remember me" verification: does anyone else with a username that starts with a lower case letter have to jump through this hoop on an iPad? When I login to RFF on a desktop PC the auto-capital change does not happen. Also, I login to RFF on the iPad directly from Safari, not a generic forum reading app. BTW, I just navigated to RFF on my iPhone via Safari, tried to login and the first letter of my username defaulted to upper case on the phone - this never happens on my PC. IIRC, the old forum software did not do this, but don't think I had an iPad at that point.

I have been on this forum for a long time, and this issue is clearly not something that is going to prevent me from logging on in order to view some linked photos I want to see. But I'd think the management would want to iron out even minor things that might discourage someone from logging in.
