is there a big enough difference between the sl-1 and the t2i to worry about which one to buy used?
i'm thinking about getting a used dslr for the canon lenses i picked up recently and will be doing my normal type of shooting with it.

hey, joe, i have both. canon's sensor tech basically stagnated at the t2i, there really isn't much difference in output. i've used the t2i for years and never upgraded because the sensor tech never improved much. i only got the sl1 because it's a bit smaller and was very cheap.

so basically, not a big enough difference to worry, i use them interchangeably. i think the liveview may be quicker on the sl1, but i'm not sure because i don't use liveview much on those bodies.

ETA: mburns is correct, the t2i has an older processor, and it's actually a fairly old body that was released around 2010. in practice, used for photo, i haven't noticed a difference.

i can get a t2i for $100. less than the sl-1 locally, private sales.
i like the tiny size of the sl-1...but the t2i has good reviews, slightly better than the sl-1 i think.

fwiw, maybe rather than get a canon dslr, you should go crazy and try a sigma. it will both infuriate and awe you, lol. i think someone is selling one of the older (non-merill) models for really cheap on rff.

the dp1x?
i was thinking something to use my canon lenses on besides the eos m...

actually, getting any camera body is a crazy notion atm...but here i am, thinking about it!!

The 30D and 40D are so cheap, why not.

Never cared for the Rebels, to much plastic.

Goodluck!

i guess the idea of having another body to use your canon lens makes sense, although i'm not sure it adds to the capabilities you already have with the eos m and fuji.

yeah, i was thinking the dp1x. it's certainly a good-light-only device, but in good light, the results are different than anything you already have. and even though i have a merrill, the dp1x is taunting me (the older models are said to have a smoother output than the merrills), so if you buy it it will stop! lol

you are bad!

not sure how i feel about another camera...the more i think about it the more i think i should just take the little m/22 out for a walk!

The 40D has a high contrast focus screen available from Canon. Nice for manual focus.
I used a 40D along side a 5D for a cuple years. Great little camera.
There is a 5Dc in the classified right now for a damn nice price.

Bump for that 5Dc, in the classifieds.

Killer deal, Ive always wanted to try one, but ive long sold my L glass.
Slap on one of those tiny little 40mm pancakes they have, oh boy...

actually, that was the plan...to find a nice home for my 40.

FWIW the SL-1 (or 100D as we know it in Europe) has the same sensor and processor as your EOS-M so you'll get easily matched results when you go out with both.
In fact any recent Canon DSLR will be fine and give you no nasty surprises + the relief at using those nice lenses with a viewfinder is palpable! :)

When I sold off all my Samsung gear to go with the EOS-M I decided I needed a second body for telephoto use. Found a super bargain "refurbished" Rebel XSi (450D) which although supposedly old tech is great for the odd occasion when I need it.

Well another vote for the 40D which is very good value for money. I am planning to sell my collection of pristine L glass but wondering whether RFF is the best place to do so. Any feedback from those members who have done so is most appreciated. Peter

your post reminded me - the sl1 and eos m share the same battery, which is convenient.

about the 5dc, great camera. the 40mm will work great on it, but the 55-250 is an efs lens and won't work.

5Dc will give you big viewfinder and FF for very low price.
But you have to check if your lenses aren't EF-S, but EF.

SL-1 is small and this might be the issue with *-button focusing, which is placed questionably at SL-1.
And focusing with Canon DSLR with shutter release button is kind of sucks to me.
It is one if the common question if someone is asking "why are my pictures are not in focus". :)

I've sold many things through the RFF classifieds, but for buying and selling Canon equipment, I've found the best place to be POTN. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php
